Rakhmatullin grows out of рәхмәт, Tatar for “thank you”. The family name was saying it long before any shirt did.

Obrigados started on 4 May 2025 as birthday presents for friends: one small word on the chest, in Tatar, Russian, English or Portuguese — the four languages my life is made of.

One word, eight centimetres wide.

Roman capitals and a full stop, at the centre of the chest. On black the thread matches the cotton, so it reads only up close. On green it’s red, and it doesn’t hide.

Blanks come from WATC Studio in Portugal. A small studio in Estoril does the embroidery, in batches of ten to twenty.
